Charlie Miller, principal research consultant at Accuvant Labs, claimed he found a security flaw in Apple laptops that could allow hackers to ruin laptop batteries, infect them with malware or potentially cause them to overheat and catch fire, Huffpost Tech said.
He said chips embedded inside the Apple laptop monitoring the battery’s temperature and level of charge could be remotely controlled by hackers using a default password that he found on a website of the chip's creator, Texas Instruments.
He said he reported his findings to Apple but did not hear back.
Miller said he has written a paper on the security flaw he planned to present at the Black Hat Security conference in Las Vegas this August which included a solution to change the battery’s default password.
