A bullet train travelling to Fuzhou in eastern Fujian province from Beijing, has crashed into another train travelling the same direction, but stalled in Wenzhou city when it lost power in a lightning strike, Huffpost World said.

The crash caused four carriages to fall off a viaduct killing 35 people and injuring 191 others.

A preliminary investigation by the Zhejiang provincial government showed the cars plunged about 65 to 100 feet from the elevated section of the track.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao called for an all-out effort to rescue passengers still trapped in the wreckage hours after the collision.

They dragged the passengers out of the coaches, about 1,500 of the passengers were taken to a school facility and Xinhua news agency said 500 residents donated blood to save the lives of those injured.
